The Young Offender’s Academy, borne out of the national Foyer Federation and the
London-based social and economic regeneration charity East Potential, is a project
for a radical new approach to the juvenile criminal justice system. In order to combat
the dislocation of young offenders, who are currently dispersed to secure estates
around the country to the great detriment of their potential to be effectively rehabilitated
and find responsible and crime-free paths to adulthood, the Young Offenders Academy
would provide all of the juvenile criminal justice services – including secure detention
– for a local area on one local campus. The project's leaders contacted Champollion
in order to help them take their proposal to the next stage and secure the commissioning
of the first pilot Young Offenders Academy.
